How many times have you heard, or said, “God, let your will be done?” “Not my will, but your will be done?” “God I want what you want for me.” I myself have said this probably hundreds or thousands of times in my prayers. This is probably one of the most used phrases by believers and probably one of the phrases that they do not know the meaning to.
One day during prayer at church, I remember praying to God, and saying that same exact phrase, “Lord, let your will be done in my life.” And then in middle of me saying that, I stopped praying. I stopped praying because I realized what I was saying. And I started to think about all the people that say that phrase and do not know exactly what that means. I had realized that I was not praying for God to have His will over my life, but that he can allow my will to happen in my life. I wanted what I was praying for to come true and hoping that if I said “Let your will be done” it would come true. And that just broke me.
I realized that, that particular phrase is a powerful phrase. “God let your will be done in my life.” I realized in the middle of my prayer that this phrase is saying to God, that no matter what happens, no matter what may come, no matter if it hurts, no matter if we like it or not, no matter if it comes the way we asked for it or not, no matter if we have money in the bank, no matter if we have food in our fridge, no matter if we have a roof over our head, no matter if we lose the person we loved most, no matter if we lose everyone around us, no matter if we lose our job, if our relationship ends, do what you want to be done in our lives. And most of the time, His will looks nothing like we imagined it to be. Most of the time it is something we did not expect.
Are you ready for God’s will to be done in your life? Think about it. It is like going sky diving. You take your training, you get on the plane, you put on the equipment, you get ready to jump out of the plane, and the only thing holding you and keeping you safe is the person behind you and the parachute. You need to place your life completely in their hands and trust in them fully, that no matter what happens they are going to get you to the ground alive and safely. That is how trusting God is. You place our life in His hands when you accept Him as your personal Lord and Savior, you equip yourself by reading the Bible, praying to Him daily, and fasting. And every day you open your eyes, and go into the world to go to school or do your job, is like jumping out of the plane, God has your back and you have your parachute, but you need to trust in Him to keep you safe no matter what may happen. There may be some turbulence, there may be some scary moments that you did not expect, but at the end of it all, although the experience was not what you expected, you land safely and alive at the end.
His will make look quite different than your will. You may be asking God for a job that you really, really, want, but He wants you to have another job. You may be praying for a relationship with someone that God does not want you with or it may not be the right time. You could be praying to leave a church or to leave to another state and God does not want that for you right now. Are you willing to accept God’s will in your life, even if it is not what you planned? Even if you have to wait a little while longer?
The Bible tells us in Matthew chapter 6:30-34:
30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? 31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[a] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
God has your back no matter what! If you keep Him first in your life, if you seek Him, and His righteousness (do what is correct and live justly) then you have nothing to worry about. If He can take care of everything else in this world, He can take care of you.
So today, I encourage you to trust in God. Trust that whatever His plans are for you are greater than what you have in mind. God knows our every thought, need, and desire. Sometimes, it may be that what we want aligns perfectly with what God wants for our lives. But, if what we want doesn’t align with His will, do not be discouraged. What He has is greater and better for you, even if you cannot see it right now, even if it is hurting you and breaking you at this precise moment. God has a purpose. Trust Him and Trust in Him to always have something better for you.
Isaiah 55:8-9 tells us,
8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
So the next time you say the phrase, “God, let your will be done be done in my life,” remember what you are saying and asking. Don’t be afraid to say this phrase, it is powerful. You may have to go through the good, the bad, and the ugly. But remember, that His ways and thoughts are far greater and higher than ours. You may be praying for a pebble, but He wants to give you a pearl.
God bless you all ❤
